El Salvador Fiesta!
Thanks to the efforts of many, our March 22nd cocktail reception to raise funds for our partner school in El Salvador raised $26K (on gross proceeds of $32K) and over 200 people attended. The Consulate of El Salvador hosted our “El Salvador Fiesta!,” which benefited CIDECO Centro Educativo, Worldfund’s education partner in El Salvador.
Fundación CIDECO supports families living in extreme poverty in La Herradura, a town outside of the capital city of San Salvador. CIDECO offers a comprehensive anti-poverty model that includes 227 homes, a health clinic, a sports center and shops run by beneficiary families. CIDECO Centro Educativo, which is the centerpiece of this community, provides a high-quality education to more than 550 pre-K through 9th grade students.
Guests savored Salvadoran hors d’oeuvres, while enjoying the elegant ambiance of the Consulate. Ten Cane Rum, Chandon, and Terrazas de los Andes graciously provided wine, scotch and rum for a cocktail bar, which was exquisitely decorated with Birds of Paradise. Guests bid on an array of exciting auction items, including: two business class plane tickets to a destination of the winner’s choice on LAN Chile airlines, a week at a fabulous villa in Careyes, Mexico, boxing gloves signed by Oscar de la Hoya and Floyd Mayweather, and a relaxing week at a Maine summer house. Well-known painters Fred Hulser, Roberto Huezo, and Carmen Trigueros generously donated their works of art for the auction. Beautiful Salvadoran photographs, books, crafts, shawls, coffee and beach towels were also up for bidding. In addition, attendees could purchase Mano Amiga certificates to support children’s specific needs, such as textbooks and vitamin supplements.
