Student of the Month — Hope for the Next Generation

Each month, Worldfund highlights the unique situation of one of the thousands of impoverished students receiving a high-quality education at Worldfund's partner schools. These stories demonstrate how a child’s development within his or her unique educational environment can help break the cycle of poverty. In addition, they serve as constant sources of inspiration for our team and supporters.

APRIL 2008 > NUBIA

Ten-year old Nubia is an exceptional student who attends a Worldfund partner school in Acapulco, Mexico. She was born with cerebral palsy but has incredibly supportive parents who have instilled in her the will to overcome the challenges caused by her condition.

People who meet Nubia immediately notice the perseverance that characterizes her life. Nubia works hard in and outside of the classroom. She strives to receive good grades, and despite the limited use of her legs, enjoys tumbling with her peers in gym class.

Nubia’s father is a delivery driver and her mother works at the school. Their modest income has enabled them to pay for the family’s most basic needs, but not for treatment for Nubia. Thankfully, her school identified a generous donor who has funded surgery and post-operative care for this special girl. After years of waiting, Nubia was able to undergo the surgery that will transform her life by helping her to walk!
