Student of the Month - Tatiana

Each month, Worldfund highlights the unique situation of one of the thousands of impoverished students receiving a high-quality education at Worldfund's partner schools. These stories demonstrate how a child’s development within his or her unique educational environment can help break the cycle of poverty. In addition, they serve as constant sources of inspiration for our team and supporters.

April 2010 > Tatiana

Sixteen-year-old Tatiana, an OGUNTEC student at the Steve Biko Cultural Institute, was accepted by the Federal Institute of Science and Technology of Bahia in 2009.

With an absent father she was raised by her mother with the help of an aunt.  She experienced financial struggles from a very young age and her mother had to take her out of the private school and send her to the public schools in Salvador, Bahia. Tatiana has always been a determined student with big dreams and an incredible capacity to overcome the obstacles she has been faced with.

Tatiana says: “It was at the Steve Biko Cultural Institute that learned about who I am, my potential to play an important role in society and where I received the knowledge and motivation to fight for my dreams. In the OGUNTEC program I received the guidance and support that has helped me enroll in a technical school where I am receiving a quality education.”

Tatiana is a student in the OGUNTEC program and was accepted into the IFBA where she is studying engineering
